I remember as I was in the closing stages of preparing The Tribe for publication in 2018, a Labour friend warned me that a new identity politics wave was sweeping the party.

A campaign was trying to rewrite party rules so that anyone who self-identified as a woman could stand as one in internal Labour Party selections – and therefore benefit from the many ‘positive action’ measures that give women a significant advantage in those selections.
